Ethnic culture in Sapa

Learning about local culture is a great way to start your time in Sapa. Many minorities in this region still wear their ethnic dress, live in simple villages, and embrace ancient customs. The morning markets are the perfect place to witness the vibrant culture of the ethnic groups. Set aside time for Mường Hum, a small but charming Sunday morning market, or make the three-hour drive to Bắc Hà Market to see locals trading all types of colorful wares and produce.

You can also get to know the ethnic groups through their unique handmade costumes. Spend some time learning about the styles of the different tribes through sewing, embroidery, weaving or batik workshops. Each costume may take months to make. If you’d like to shop ethnic designs, drop in the IndigoCat store to buy authentic bags, jackets, and pillows.

ITINERARY

DAY 01 : HANOI – SAPA – CAT CAT VILLAGE (Lunch/ Dinner)

06:00 - 06:30 The sleeping bus will pick you up at the meeting point. After 05 hours on the highway, the bus will take you to Sapa.

13:00 - 13:30 Come to Sapa, you will go to the hotel, check-in at the hotel and have lunch at the restaurant.

14:30 Tour guide and guests will walk to visit Cat Cat village, starting the journey to discover the village. Visit Cat Cat village of the Hmong. Visitors will be able to visit and learn about the customs and habits of ethnic minorities. Visit Cat Cat waterfall and the hydroelectric power plant built by the French in the early 20th century, have fun, and take souvenir photos.

18:30 - 19:00 Enjoy dinner at the restaurant, with free time to explore Sapa at night.

DAY 02: TREKKING - Y LINH HO - LAO CHAI - TA VAN (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

07h00 – 08h00 Having breakfast at the restaurant.
08:00 Trekking to Y Linh Ho village and then starting hiking through the rice terraces along Muong Hoa Stream to Lao Chai, the village of Black H’mong minority. Here, you will enjoy the spectacular landscape of the Hoang Lien Son mountain ranges.

12:30 Have lunch at Ta Van village then and rest

14:00 Bus pick-up to hotel in Sapa.

18:30 You enjoy dinner. Overnight at hotel.

DAY 03: SAPA – BAC HA MARKET- HANOI (Breakfast, Lunch)

06:30 Have breakfast at your hotel.

07:00 Pick up at the hotel. It takes 3 hours of driving to reach Bac Ha market. At the market, you will also meet Flower Hmong (Red Hmong), Black Dao, Tay, Nung, La Chi, Phu La, and other tribal groups who come from far and wide to buy and sell a wide variety of goods and livestock, exchange news, and renew friendships. In the past, the market was a center for trading horses, but now that motorbikes have replaced them, it is more common to see buffalo, cows, goats, fish, and others.

12:00 Lunch at a local restaurant.

13:30 Trek to Ban Pho village of the Flower H’Mong people to see their houses, daily life, understand a little more about their lifestyle, and traditional customs. Especially, we can try homemade wine made from corn. Drive back to Sapa, 110 km in about 3 hours ride.

16:30 Arrival in Lao Cai, the bus stops at the restaurant. You wait at the restaurant, then the sleeper bus picks you up and returns to Hanoi.

21:00 - 21:30 Arrive in Hanoi. Bus drops off at Tran Quang Khai Street. End tour!
